FARMINGTON, MO: As the Stay-at-Home Orders enters its second month for many in the region, Marler Law Partners, a local Farmington law firm, was looking for another way to support the community during the COVID19 Crisis.

Back in March, Marler Law Partners delivered groceries and supplies to neighbors in need who lived in Farmington and surrounding areas. This month, they have decided to host an online fundraiser for First Responders Children’s Foundation.

The Foundation’s mission is to provide financial support to both children who have lost a parent in the line of duty, as well as families enduring significant financial hardships due to tragic circumstances.

Right now, the Foundation is fundraising to provide hotel rooms to those working the front line of the COVID –19 crisis so they can self-quarantine to keep their families safe, materials for health professionals and grants for first responder families.

MLP Managing Partner Sara Marler reflected on the grocery delivery project’s impact. “We were overwhelmed with the responses. We started out thinking we would be able to deliver to 20 families and ended up delivering to 36 that first weekend. We still had more requests we weren’t able to fulfill and ended up doing Walmart deliveries in April to those who we could reach.”

Bobbi Janzekovich,  was one of the individuals who reached out to Marler Law Partners in March. “I will never forget the kindness [Marler Law Partners] showed me. Thank you for everything. [They are] doing God’s work. ‘When I was hungry you fed me, When I was cold you clothed me!’,” Bobbi commented on the company’s Facebook page.

In April, Marler became aware of the efforts of the First Responders Children’s Foundation through a friend. They wanted to help those on the front lines fighting COVID and this organization’s mission aligned with that goal.

“The more I read online about what healthcare workers and their families were going through during this time, I knew I had to do something to help.”

Why We Need Biker’s Against Child Abuse – Now More Than Ever

[FARMINGTON, MO, April 29, 2020]

In honor of April being Child Abuse Prevention Month, Marler Law Partners has decided to fundraise for Bikers Against Child Abuse (B.A.C.A.) International and will be matching any donations made with a check to the local chapter – B.A.C.A. of SW Missouri. B.A.C.A. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create a safer environment for abused children.

Per the organization website, B.A.C.A. works with local agencies to get notified when a child is frightened of their environment. “Following this initial contact, the child is given the name and number of two B.A.C.A. Members residing geographically closest to them, who then become the child’s primary contacts. Anytime the child feels scared and feels the need for the presence of his new B.A.C.A. family, the child may call upon these bikers to go to the child’s house and provide the necessary reassurance to feel safe and protected.”

“B.A.C.A. has been there to defend a number of our clients in family law matters,” said Ramona Gau, Partner at Marler Law Partners. “We’ve seen their impact locally with the SW Missouri chapter.”

This fundraiser comes amidst a health crisis, where resources are stretched thin for business owners regardless of industry. When the firm approached the managing partner about proceeding with the fundraiser during the COVID19 Crisis, Sara Marler said, “We need this fundraiser for B.A.C.A. now more than ever. With kids out of school and at home, there are less ‘reporters’ looking out for signs of abuse and neglect. There simply isn’t the same level of access for kids to find these resources outside of the education system without organizations like B.A.C.A.”

As of April 29^th, the firm has raised almost $100 from supporters on Facebook. Sara Marler decided to extend the matching campaign and plans on writing the check to match the final amount raised by Saturday, May 9^th.

Marler Law Partners in Farmington, Missouri is taking a different approach. To support the firm’s mission of “Helping good people through hard times,” managing partner Sara Marler announced on Saturday that MLP will be offering grocery and household necessities delivery next Monday (March 23^rd)  and Tuesday (March 24^th) in the afternoon to individuals who sign up in the Farmington and Park Hills area (zip codes 63640,63637,63601,63651).

“I am concerned for people who can’t get out and get the things they need due to their health or age,” Marler said. “I’m always looking for ideas to live out our mission in the community. When I realized that people were not able to buy everyday essential items, that struck a chord with me. How are we able to help people who are home-bound or can’t take the risk to get out?”

When Sara floated the idea to the rest of her staff, the entire firm had an overwhelmingly positive response.

“I can’t think of a better way to help our neighbors in a time like this,” Practice Manager Cayla Sinamon said. “My family had to drive an hour over to Washington County just to get the groceries we needed for a family gathering last week. The least we can do is try to stock up and distribute what we can to those who can’t afford to leave their homes.”

The firm is taking extra precautions to ensure their staff limits contamination. They will be dropping off the care packages on the doorstep and leaving hand wipes for people to wipe down everything.

“The good news for our clients is that our firm has planned ahead for this type of challenge and we are fully equipped to meet this situation head-on,” Marler said. “Every one of our employees has a laptop, technology, and remote phone access to continue serving our clients as if we were physically in the office. While this ever-changing situation is very serious, we will get through it together. We will be transitioning any standing appointments or consultations to be via phone or video. Clients can expect delays in their hearings and proceedings as many of the courts will be closing. We will be communicating with our clients early and often on any changes to the timeline of their cases due to COVID-19 closures.”

MLP Gives Back To Youth Organization & Donates Holiday Party Budget To Families In Need

Farmington, MO: Helping Good People Through Hard Times is Marler Law Partners core value, and throughout the year, Marler Law Partners focuses on helping those in need. In this season of holiday giving, MLP selected two ways to give back to the community.

Earlier this month, on Giving Tuesday, they donated $1,200 to Rocky Creek Youth Ranch, a youth facility that helps over 30 young men in St. Francois County.

“Rocky Creek Youth Ranch is a great organization,” MLP Managing Partner Sara Marler said. “It broke my heart talking to the therapist who was organizing Christmas for all their kids on a shoestring budget. I decided Marler Law Partners could help make their Christmas a little brighter.”

But the giving didn’t stop on Giving Tuesday! Instead of doing their annual Christmas party, MLP decided to put that money to better use and donate that budget to four families in need in Iron County.

The staff ordered pizza and had a wrapping party last week so that the families would have clothes, shoes, blankets, presents as well as other necessities like clean water and gas for generators to stay warm. Marler Law Partners staff, along with Judge Scott Schrum, had the opportunity to meet with the families and deliver the gifts at South Iron Elementary School on Thursday, December 19, 2019.

“It was touching to meet with the families and hear their stories,” Partner Ramona Gau said. “One of the moms was so grateful that her kids will get Christmas this year. She might be surprised at how much there is in our haul for her, too.”
